Mission Accomplished: Omaha Atheists Officially a 501(c)(3) Charity

Category: News,Non-profit,Omaha Atheists,UncategorizedCarl Zulauf @ 6:06 pm

A number of us have been working towards this goal for over a year, and we have finally reached it. The Omaha Atheists have received determination from the IRS that we are exempt from Federal income tax under section 501(c)(3). The letter goes on to further classify Omaha Atheists as a public charity.

We still have a long way to go towards achieving the non-profit’s mission, but this milestone puts those goals closer to being within reach.

Click on the image below to see a crude copy of the letter from the IRS.

Articles of Incorporation Filed

Category: Non-profit,Omaha AtheistsCarl Zulauf @ 7:04 pm

Earlier this week the Omaha Atheists took its next step in the process of becoming a non-profit. Our Articles of Incorporation were filed with Nebraska’s Secretary of State.

We are required to publish a notice of incorporation in a local publication for three successive weeks to complete the incorporation. We have decided to purchase notices in the Midlands Business Journal to fulfill this requirement.

Another step we have taken is to create bylaws for our organization. They were created a while ago by Brian Aden but have now been made available online.

Both the articles and the bylaws are available in our About section.

Welcome!

Category: Non-profit,Omaha AtheistsCarl Zulauf @ 1:44 pm

Welcome to the website of the Omaha Atheists. We are dedicated to building a positive community for non-theists, fostering secular viewpoints, supporting charitable contributions to society, and protecting the separation of church and state.

Currently we do most of our organizing and discussion through meetup.com. Please check out our meetup.com group.

We are in the process of forming a non-profit organization to support our community and fulfill our mission, which was stated above. We also want to work with and support other atheist, agnostic, non-theist, secular, skeptic, and free-thought groups in the area. You will find links to other groups along the sidebar to the right and you will find schedules for these groups on our calendar page.

From time to time we will post media, information, and news that is relevant or involves our community. We will also try to post as much information as we can regarding our non-profit efforts. We want to be as transparent as possible and we welcome feedback of any kind on anything we do.

Stay tuned! The best is yet to come.
